If you're using adaptive automatic gearbox in a real vehicle than the gears will change depending of how much throttle you are applying. If floor it, gears will shift at the red line, if you keep it at 1/2 gears will change at about 1/2 of max revs.
In SP, it depends of the truck, just to add more realism to the game. If I'm driving a new generation Scania, I would be using an automatic transmission (with some eco / power mode, so the behavior depends on how far do you press the gas pedal), and if I'm using an old Renault, or an old Scania (like a 114h), I would be using a manual, so you know the difference about driving experience
Adaptive Automatic Transmission: The 3 modes basically change the RPM range for the gears, ECO will shift on lower RPMs and Power will lead the engine close to the red band and then upshift. ( Example: Features such as Sport and ECO mode in cars depend on the this feature)
